Unlicensed cancer, diabetes medicine worth 6.6 crores seized in Kolkata
A tragic accident occurred in Sikkim on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a mother and her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter from Kolkata. The incident took place around 6 PM on Rongli Road, near Lamathen in the Pelling district. The four-wheeled vehicle, carrying six tourists, was returning from Zuluk when it suddenly veered off the road and plunged into a gorge. The mother and child were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other four passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. One passenger was reported to have survived with less severe injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accident occurred when the vehicle’s wheels slipped on the wet, slippery road, causing the driver to lose control. The area was affected by dense fog at the time of the incident, which likely reduced visibility and contributed to the accident. Local authorities swiftly responded to the scene, coordinating rescue operations and ensuring the injured were transported to the nearest medical facility. The injured passengers are being treated for various injuries, but their conditions have not been publicly detailed.
Sikkim has seen a significant increase in tourist activity during the winter season, with many visitors attracted to the snowfall in the region. However, adverse weather conditions, including snow, fog, and cold temperatures, pose risks to travelers, especially on the mountainous roads. The weather department has issued warnings for continued snowfall in the coming days, which may further affect road conditions. Authorities are urging caution for all tourists traveling in the area, emphasizing the need for vigilance on the roads during the winter months.
